Walking by the Bay and O-Tag Challenge
On May 8th and 30th I had the privilege of teaching the warm-up and cool down for these two Council-run events.
It was great to see so many people out for the Walking by the Bay on May 8th, and then so many more people challenging themselves and their best times on the 30th with the O-Tag Challenge.
On May 8th the Heart Foundation Walking Groups lead about 60 people on a walk along the foreshore in Scarborough. There was a free morning tea and fruit and coffee also available. I provided the warm up exercises and some cool down yoga. Tom's Law provided a bootcamp option for those with more energy left :)
On May 30th was the O-Tag challenge - a 6-km fun run along the water starting and finishing at the Redcliffe Jetty. Tom Law from Tom's Law MC'd the event, Slacklining Australia provided some mindfulness fun before and after the event. I provided warmup stretches and cool down stretchercise/yoga as the waves arrived back. It was very cool seeing the high school kids coming back in around 23 minutes. As the waves came through people wandered in and out of the cool down exercise. It was a beautiful day - great to see so many people out enjoying it.
I gave the slacklining a go between warm up and cool down - it is a great mindful practice. If you want your kids to meditate, but they won't sit still, then get them into slacklining. You need to control your breath and your focus. If your concentration wanders for a moment you start wobbling like crazy. Logan and Cooper from Slacklining Australia were really supportive and helpful with their instruction. It was fun and not at all scary - you just put your foot down if you wobble too much.
Council has so many great event available like these through the Moreton Healthy and Active Program and school holiday events. So check out their site to see if there is something you'd like to do for a reasonable price or even for free for some events. Keep yourself Healthy and Active in this beautiful place we live in :)
